Dr. Carrie’s Target Audience: Dr. Carrie treats business owners who suffer from fatigue. She helps business owners get more energy so they can get more business done.

What is meant by Fatigue?

According to Dr. Carrie, it’s mental- not physical. It’s the feeling of being tired or foggy where one has trouble concentrating. There is an inability to get things done and get into a creative zone. Rate your energy level from 1-10 (10 being the highest). If you do not rate an 8 or higher, you are suffering from fatigue. This impacts your business, creativity and your bottom line.

So, what can we do about it?

Dr. Carrie believes in functional medicine and getting to the root underlying cause of where the fatigue is coming from. Once that is determined, focused is place on treating fatigue with natural treatments: i.e – diet, exercise and natural supplements to get the body healthy again. One thing business owners don’t appreciate is their #1 asset: THEMSELVES. People often self medicate on sugar and caffeine. Be sure that your diet is good and you are drinking enough water. Take time out time for stress management. Literally – schedule it in! Be sure to get into deep sleep every night. Having a good sleep schedule is imperative to keeping your brain sharp and focused.

The Importance of Deep Breathing…

You won’t see the signs of not breathing effectively unless you focus it. Typically most people breathe from the top of their chest when they should be breathing from their belly. Place one hand over your heart and the other on your belly. Be sure your belly is moving and not your chest. Just 5 deep belly breaths will automatically bring your stress levels down. As simple as this is, we need reminders to get ourselves to do it. Dr. Carri recommends going on the internet and buying reminder bracelets. They vibrate once per hour to remind you to breathe.

What’s the whole story with Gluten?

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye and barley. It is a complete irritant to the body. Humans can’t digest it properly which causes inflammation and irritation. It serves as just another stressor in the body. Gluten is also addictive and has a negative impact on the brain. Eliminating gluten from your diet will help you to feel clearer and more focused. To transition yourself off gluten, focus on one meal at a time. Once you master that, transition to the next meal of the day (lunch or whatever you choose).

In her new book Reclaim Your Energy and Feel Normal Again, she shares her own personal fatigue story as well as 4 others. One of the stories is about one woman who was suffering from food allergies, food sensitivities, chronic pain, fatigue, migraines, and insomnia. By following Dr. Carri’s recommendations around breathing, eating and getting good sleep, all those symptoms dissolved. Dr. Carri urges us to remember that food is your most powerful medicine. Switching over to these new habit is a process that takes time but can change your life. Don’t be too hard on yourself as you make changes. Try the 80/20 rule as a start. Even that will guarantee more energy and clearer thinking.

Why did you have to write this book (Reclaim Your Energy and Feel Normal Again)?

With the guidance of her business coach, she was encouraged her to write it from the premise that if she didn’t, there would be many people out there who would suffer. So, she committed to getting it done.

In this episode we’ll cover:

  • What FATIGUE actually means
  • The negative effect of gluten on the human body
  • How to breathe correctly
  • The importance of DEEP SLEEP
  • Why FOOD is your MEDICINE

Practical and Actionable:

You know that phrase.. “I eat breath and sleep __________” Fill in the BLANK. What do you eat? Be mindful of what you eat at each meal. Are you breathing? Schedule in your breathing time into your electronic calendar to take 5 minutes 2-3 times a day to do your belly breaths or a simple meditation. Also make sure you’re getting deep sleep – wear an eye mask! This helps your body to make maximum amounts of melatonin.
